Interview with Mark Batterson

THEY SAID IT

“Clearly, a lot of folks who buy Kindle Fires simply are not in the market for a $500 tablet. These are customers that either would have purchased a $100 Kindle or no tablet at all. There are some customers who clearly wanted to gift a tablet this year, and it’s cheaper to gift a Fire than an iPad. That’s where the impact comes in.” – Morgan Keegan analyst Tavis McCourt explaining the impact of the Kindle Fire on the tablet market.

“The mandate also forces Colorado Christian to fund government-dictated speech that is directly at odds with its own speech and religious teachings. Having to pay a fine to the taxing authorities for the privilege of practicing one’s religion or controlling one’s own speech is un-American, unprecedented, and flagrantly unconstitutional.” – Part of the wording in Colorado Christian University’s lawsuit against the Obama administration’s mandate requiring businesses to pay for insurance plans that cover two types of birth-control pills the college and other pro-life advocates view as abortion agents.

“It is challenging in many parts of the country to lead [new] churches to want to be part of a convention with such a regional name.” – Bryant Wright, Southern Baptist Convention president, on forming a task force to consider changing the 116-year-old denomination’s moniker.
